Why use a persistent journal alongside a terminal AI connection?

The short answer

A terminal connection and a persistent journal serve different review needs. The terminal provides its configured live environment; Chart Reporter retains reported trade history and offers a separate read-only MCP surface. Combining them can be useful when the task requires both, with each source and permission kept explicit.

Identify where the answer should come from

A question about the connected terminal's current state belongs with a tool that actually reads that environment. A comparison across journaled accounts, strategies or historical sessions belongs with the stored records and definitions that support it. Do not assume one connection automatically contains the other system's context.

For example, an assistant can inspect a journal period without that proving a desktop terminal is currently reporting. Conversely, a live terminal observation does not establish that every historical screenshot, tag or account-stored context is available through that connection. Name the source for each part of the answer.

Inspect capabilities individually

Chart Reporter's current MCP surface is account-scoped and read-only. Native terminal methods can have different operational capabilities according to the terminal and client configuration. Check their current documentation, available tools and consent controls rather than inferring permissions from the shared MCP label.

An assistant with access to multiple integrations should not treat a historical review request as authorisation to execute a terminal action. A useful report can remain descriptive even when other tools exist. Keep credentials and access lifecycles separate so revoking one connection is not mistaken for revoking them all.

Reconcile before joining the evidence

Align account identity, symbol, timestamps, timezone and relevant metric definitions before combining live and journal observations. If two sources differ, inspect the record and capture timing instead of averaging conflicting facts or silently choosing the more convenient number.

A persistent journal adds value when the historical record is traceable and the comparison is reproducible. That does not mean it reconstructs every missing candle or exposes every stored note through MCP. State those limits and identify which additional evidence the task would require. Use the combination because the question needs both sources, not because connecting more tools automatically creates a better analysis.
