Why can a journaled trade have no replay candles?

By Chart Reporter Reviewed 2 min read

The short answer

A valid trade record does not guarantee usable replay history. Chart Reporter needs captured broker candles for the traded symbol and time window. Missing history, fewer than two usable bars, partial coverage and a still-forming post-exit window are different conditions.

Read the specific coverage state

No captured history means the supported interval checks succeeded but did not find a usable window. Insufficient history means there are too few usable bars to draw a path. Partial coverage means some bars exist while gaps remain. An error means the request failed and availability is unknown.

These distinctions tell you what to investigate next. A failed request should not be presented as an empty successful result. A single bar should not be stretched into a detailed path. A coverage percentage is an estimate under stated assumptions, not proof that a remote backfill job is progressing.

Check the source and capture environment

The reporter needs a connected terminal and broker history for the exact traded symbol and timeframe. Broker symbol suffixes and historical availability can matter. Keep the EA running and follow the current recovery guidance, including opening the relevant history in MT5 when appropriate.

A completed trade-history import does not prove that its candle uploads are complete. Recent trades can also have post-exit context that has not yet formed. The displayed timing is conditional on capture and availability; it is not a guaranteed delivery schedule for every old trade.

Review with bounded evidence

Use Retry candles after checking the terminal and visible state. Avoid repeatedly refreshing through rate limits or treating every gap as a reason to reinstall the EA. If the issue persists, retain the symbol, interval, dates, EA version and terminal last-seen details for support.

You can still reconcile execution facts and net results while replay is unavailable. Clearly separate those valid observations from any price-path inference the missing candles would have supported. Do not fill the gap with a different feed and describe it as the original broker context. Missing evidence should narrow the conclusion, not disappear from the review.
