Why is my MT5 terminal online but my journal looks empty?
By Chart Reporter Reviewed 2 min read
The short answer
An online terminal shows recent heartbeat contact. It does not prove that the selected journal view contains every expected trade. Check the account, date range, timezone, filters, history access and final-close state before concluding that capture failed.
Establish what the empty view means
First distinguish a successful request with no matching records from a request that failed. Loading, empty and error are different states. A failed request leaves the result unknown; it is not evidence that your trade history contains zero trades.
Then confirm that the selected hub belongs to the broker account where the trade occurred. Clear symbol, strategy, tag and session restrictions temporarily. A perfectly healthy reporter can populate one account while you are looking at another, or while a narrow filter excludes the record you expect.
Use a known trade as a reference
Pick an existing trade with a known ticket and opening time. Widen the date window enough to cover timezone differences, then compare its state with the view's eligibility rules. A performance widget based on completed trades may legitimately exclude an open position.
For example, a position partially closed yesterday but still open today should not automatically be treated as a fully completed trade in every statistic. Similarly, changing from Local to Broker time can move a record across a calendar boundary. Reconcile the record itself before comparing account-wide totals or assuming a duplicate.
Check history access before reconnecting
Your plan's effective history window can limit what the app returns. Selecting an older calendar range does not create permission to see it. Archived hubs are also excluded from ordinary active-account views. Check these boundaries before rotating keys or reinstalling the reporter.
If the intended record is still missing, collect the hub, ticket, symbol, dates, timezone, EA version and terminal last-seen state. Keep credentials out of that report. There is no need to place a live test order: an existing broker record gives support a safer and more precise reconciliation target.
